The messages pretend to come from Samsung. However, the motley “offers” and downright sketchy domain name smsung.ca
do not inspire confidence. The whois record for the domain does not mention anything Samsung-related either.
I had blissfully ignored the messages, and, eventually remembering that there seems to be regulation around the use of short SMS sending numbers, had vowed to find out who the sender really was.
Looking up the short number 732237 on txt.ca, I see the sender listed as “Samsung Canada Mobile Alerts”, with a proper Samsung URL.
Following one of the links I had received as a SMS, I see it indeed redirects to Samsung:
Location: https://www.samsung.com/ca/rings/galaxy-ring/buy/?cid=...
