Things that I learned, shamefully, only in April 2022.
litecli is a thing that exists.
It is an alternate terminal interface for SQLite databases. The sqlite3
REPL that comes with SQLite is fine, but litecli is actively helpful; with auto-complete and support for editing in one’s favorite text editor.
Some audio formats encode audio “objects” at arbitrary spatial locations, rather than tracks each meant for a pre-determined speaker.
I had heard of the brands “Dolby Atmos” and “DTS:X” for years and had ignored them, thinking that the 5.1 multichannel audio, that has existed in household scenarios for literal decades, was more than good enough.
The idea of object encoding sounds smart: the person creating the soundtrack can in principle place their audio sources anywhere they want, without having to worry about having to map to specific speakers. Then, at playback time, the decoding equipment can map from the arbitrary location to the most adequate speakers that exist.
“Nec” stands for “Nippon Electric Company.”
“Electric” is still part of the full name, 日本電気株式会社.
« Mort aux vaches » is an anti-militarist saying, or generally directed to representatives of established order, such as the police.
Sub-learning: « vache » is 19th century slang for “police”.
Edamame is soy 😳.
