It turns out that a CD player's lens is not supposed to look like this:

After cleaning, it looks shinier and more transparent:
Cleaner-looking
It also reads DVDs with much more ease than before cleaning. The issue was not as apparent with CDs.
Behold! Thirty-four. Gigabytes.
