Spelling is hard.
The French Sony text, which I assume appears to satisfy Canadian requirements, reads:
Cet apparell numérique de la classe B respecte toutes les exigences du règlement sur le matériel brouilleur du Canada.
HP text reads:
Comforme â la classe B des normes canadiennes de compatibilité électromagnetiques (CEM).
(Bad spellings bolded.)
The HP49 is an early production model. I remember this was noticed at the time, and has probably been fixed since.
I was probably surprised that large, multinational companies would let a product out without thorough, multilingual proofreading. Now I am more surprised that this may indicate that Canadian regulations require information to be printed, but do not provide an example of acceptable text in both official languages.
